Hamilton Pool

Our 3rd week into summer and our 3rd swimming hole, even though we have already been here once this summer!  It was raining in ATX but we took our chances and headed west a few miles.  Sure enough, the sun was shining over Hamilton Pool and we were the FIRST people on the beach.

After a few hours in the cold water and falls, we hiked a mile upstream to the Pedernales.  The kids had more fun there fighting the current and the warmer water.  We even encountered a not so friendly  critter on the way.

McKinney Falls

2nd week of summer is done is so is our second water hole visit.  We even talked a few friend into joining us for the day!  For the first time we enjoyed the lower falls over the upper falls.  Maybe it was the busload of 75 kids at the upper falls!

Bull Creek

Summer is in full swing now and time to start visiting our favorite water holes.  Nothing is better than watching a dog have just as much fun as the kids.  Until today, I did not know that dogs could dive to the bottom while swimming!  This one has decided to give up on squirrels (has yet to catch one) and try for turtles.  It was the funnies thing ever!

LOVE Bull Creek!!

National Trails Day

Another day of service...keeping ATX gorgeous!  A great park with an even greater history!

"In 1881 the original capital building burned to the ground; only a pile of ashes remained. Officials decided the building must be reconstructed, of limestone, in a grand fashion. A spot south of town, Oatmanville (to be renamed Oak Hill) was negotiated as a quarry site, to which a railroad spur was built. The labor was supplied by the State of Texas. Convict Hill got its name because 8 convicts died while quarrying limestone between 1882 and 1885."
